Her Radiance is Anna Sofie Mathiasens first show in Rogaland and consists of new drawings and a animation film.
In Jules Vernes Le Rayon vert (1986) Miss Helena Campbell refuses to marry before she has seen the green ray(1). ”This ray has the virtue of meaning that anyone who has seen it can no longer make a mistake in matters of sentiment; its appearance destroys illusions and lies.” (Le Rayon vert, Jules Verne)
For the show Mathiasen has explored a series of motives. Mosquitos, wedding-cakes, green rays, singing grasshoppers and magnolias. All motives which Mathiasen finds both repelling and alluring, and like Miss Helena Campbell to which she attaches parts of her fate.
Anna Sofie Mathiasen (b. 1995, Copenhagen, DK) lives and works in Oslo. Working with mixed media installations, writing, photography, collage, film and animation she collects, investigates and mediates material and stories to create new narratives and fictions around it through different forms of montage. She works with questions such as: how to reactivate material and how to reanimate it? Mathiasen has previously exhibited at Guttormsgaards arkiv (Blaker, No), Destinys (Oslo, NO), Kunstnernes Hus (Oslo, NO) and Sol (DK).
(1). The green ray is a natural phenomenon which can be observed at sunset at a free sea horizon. If the atmosphere is clear enough, you can see a brief green flash in the moment after the sun has set.
The exhibition is supported by Arts Council Norway.
