Contemporary Art Stavanger (CAS) stands in solidarity with all civilians experiencing violence in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict; and we condemn all forms of violence against civilians, islamophobia, and antisemitism. The United Nations Secretary-General condemns the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023 as an act of terrorism, and also states that it does not justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people. 1

The current escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza is unprecedented, with the death toll in Gaza now crossing the 10,000-mark, 2 including more than 4,100 children. According to international humanitarian law, all sides in a conflict have a clear obligation to protect the lives of civilians caught up in the hostilities. 3

We at CAS add our voices to the many thousands of others around the globe calling for a ceasefire.
We stand by all the undersigned art institutions in Norway and demand that the Norwegian government increase its efforts and strengthen its call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the killing and harming of all civilians in Gaza.
We demand that the Norwegian government enhance its efforts in the call for an immediate end to the ongoing blockade, so that all necessary humanitarian aid can reach those affected by the war.
We further demand that the Norwegian government stresses the importance that all UN resolutions and International Laws are upheld.
CAS has financially supported humanitarian aid in Palestine through Leger uten grenser and Amnesty International.
