Gjestekunstnerprogrammet tilbyr et opphold i Sandnes for både nasjonale og internasjonale kunstnere. Det er et samarbeid mellom Sandnes kommune og Rogaland fylkeskommune hvor kunstneren får tilgang til et kostnadsfritt studio og leilighet i Sandnes i en periode på 1-3 måneder. Studioet ligger i samme bygning som flere andre kunstnerverksteder på Stasjon-K midt i sentrum av byen. Leiligheten ligger på Skeianetunet ved Sandvedparken som er et fint turområdet med fem minutters gåavstand til studioplass og sentrum.
AiR Sandnes er en residens for både produksjon og nettverksbygging. Målet med programmet er å skape et sted der man har frihet til å eksperimentere og jobbe gjennom sine kunstneriske utfordringer fri fra forpliktelser og forventninger kunstneren gjerne er knyttet til på sitt hjemsted. Det legges opp et individuelt forløp for hver besøkende kunstner ut fra hans/hennes spesifikke behov og ønsker. Man introduseres til regionens kunstscene og det tilrettelegges for møter med andre kunstnere og potensielle samarbeidspartnere. Kunstneren kan være fra utlandet, norsk statsborger eller regional kunstner som ønsker et alternativt prosjektrom. Tilbudet inkluderer prosjektstøtte på 1000 euro per måned. Det er ingen spesielle kriterier knyttet til ordningen bortsett fra at man må bo og jobbe på stedet i løp av perioden, men alle blir oppfordret til å presentere arbeidene de har gjennomført under oppholdet i form av en utstilling eller åpent atelier. Dette er noe man selv må ta initiativ og tilrettelegge for. AiR Sandnes et pågående samarbeid med Kunstskolen i Rogaland om at kunstnerne blir invitert til å holde en kunstnerpresentasjon på skolen i løpet av oppholdet.
Et mål for gjestekunstnerprogrammet er å være et møtepunkt mellom de besøkende nasjonale og internasjonale kunstnerne og Rogalands kunstmiljø Det legges derfor opp til deltakelse på utstillingsåpninger, foredrag, seminarer og andre kulturelle arrangementer som skaper rom for å utveksle erfaringer.
Gjennom året er det kontinuerlig kunstnere i ordningen, bortsett fra juli måned. AiR Sandnes har to søknadsfrister: 1. juni og 1. desember. 6 kunstnere blir valgt ut ved hver søknadsfrist, og det mottas gjennomsnittlig 150-180 søknader hver gang. Fristen i juni legger til rette for residenser fra januar til juni året etter, mens fristen i desember fastlegger residensene fra august til desember.

AiR offers a residency in Sandnes for both national and international artists. Sandnes municipality and Rogaland county are collaboratively responsible for the residency, which offers free access to a studio and apartment for a period of 1-3 months. The studio is located in the same building as several other studios at Station-K in the middle of the city center. The apartment is located on Skeianetunet by Sandvedparken, a nice hiking area and within a five-minute walk of the studio and city center.
The main goals of the residency are networking and new artistic production. More specifically, the residency aims to create a place where artists have the freedom to experiment and work through artistic challenges free from the obligations and expectations of their usual daily environment. The program is open to individuals interested in pursuing artistic research related to their work. During their stay, artists are introduced to the region’s art scene as well as other artists and practitioners for potential partnerships. The residency accepts applications from international and national artists, as well as regional artists who need a temporary, alternative project space. In addition to providing a studio and living quarters, the program includes project support of 1,000 euros per month. There are no specific expectations for the residents, except that the artist must live and work on site during the period. Every visitor is encouraged to facilitate a presentation of the work they have completed during their stay, either as an exhibition or an open atelier. AiR Sandnes has an ongoing collaboration with the Art School in Rogaland, and visiting artists are invited to hold a presentation of their work to students at the school during their stay.
It is the aim of AiR Sandnes Residency to offer a meeting point between visiting residents and the Rogaland art community. Artists in residence are invited to exhibition openings, lectures, seminars and other cultural events, creating space for dialogue and shared experiences.
With the exception of the month of July, the residency is occupied year-round, and accommodates a single resident at a time. AiR Sandnes has two application deadlines: June 1 and December 1 of each year. The deadline in June facilitates the residence from January to June the following year, while the deadline in December facilitates the residence from August to December. Six artists will be selected from each application period. The program receives an average 150-180 applications for each application period.
