Haugesund Billedgalleri har røtter tilbake til etableringen av Haugesund Kunstforening. I Kunstforeningens stiftelsesår 1913 ble det første kunstverket Et familiebesøk i Sætesdalen av Asor Hansens kjøpt inn. To år senere ble det grafiske bladet Vampyr av Edvard Munch anskaffet. Kunstforeningen donerte i 1973 det Faste galleri (444 kunstverk) til Haugesund kommune. Samme år ble kunstmuseet Haugesund Billedgalleri etablert. Haugesund Billedgalleri er i dag en avdeling i Haugesund kultur og festivalutvikling KF. Museets samling inneholder over 2000 kunstverk.
Kunstmuseet bygger sin samling i hovedsak omkring kunstverk eller kunstnere med tilknytning til Vestlandet. Tradisjonelle grener innen billedkunsten er representert, med hovedvekt på maleri, grafikk og skulptur. En viktig del av museets samling er Tjørhom-samlingen. Den består av over 300 tresnitt, trestikk og linoleumssnitt av norske og internasjonale kunstnere donert av dr. theol. Ola Tjørhom, i 2008. I tillegg har museet linoleumssnitt av Haugesunds kunstneren Trygve Goa, tresnitt av Niclas Gulbrandsen og fargetresnitt av Knut Rumohr. Museet har også en stor samling kulltegninger av Håkon Bleken. Andre representerte kunstnere med lokal tilknytning er Fredrik Kolstø, Ole Frøvig, Norvald Valand, Magnus Gjertsen, Stein-Magnus Opedal, Helene Nielsen, John Audun Hauge, Arne Aase og Olav Nygaard.
I tillegg til å produsere ulike temporære utstillinger tilbyr museet en rekke aktiviteter og arrangementer. Museet byr på formidlingsprogram for både barn og voksne. Blant annet barnekunstklubben BAKUFIKU, konsertserien LYD, KUNSTpause og søndagsomvisninger. Museet er også en yndet arena for klassiske konserter og samarbeider bla. med MUNOR (Musikkselskapet Nordvegen) og PODIUM-festivalen om et klassisk musikktilbud.

Haugesund Art Gallery dates back to the founding of the Haugesund Art Society in 1913.That same year as the Art Society was founded the first artwork was purchased, Et familiebesøk i Sætesdalen of the artist Asor Hansens. Two years later, the graphic magazine Vampire by Edvard Munch was acquired. The Art Society continued to acquire works, and in 1973 donated the Permanent Gallery (444 artworks) to the Haugesund municipality. That same year, the Haugesund Art Gallery and museum were established. Haugesund Art Gallery is currently a department under Haugesund culture and festival development (Haugesund kultur og festivalutvikling KF).
Over 2,000 works of art comprise the museum’s current collection. The art museum mainly builds its collection around art and artists with ties to the west coast of Norway. Traditional branches of visual arts are represented, with an emphasis on painting, printmaking and sculpture. An important part of the museum’s collection is the Tjørhom Collection. The collection was donated to the museum by Dr. Theol. Ola Tjørhom in 2008 and consists of over 300 woodcuts and linoleum prints by Norwegian and international artists.
In addition, the museum also houses lino-cut prints by Haugesund artist Trygve Goa, traditional black and white woodcut prints by Niclas Gulbrandsen, colored woodcut prints by Knut Rumohr, and a large collection of charcoal drawings. Other represented artists with a local connection include Fredrik Kolstø, Ole Frova, Norvald Valand, Magnus Gjertsen, Stein Magnus Opedal, Helene Nielsen, John Audun Hauge, Arne Aase and Olav Nygaard.
In addition to producing various temporary exhibitions, the museum offers a variety of activities and events, including an education program for both children and adults, the children’s art club BAKUFIKU, the concert series SOUND, Art Pause, and Sunday tours. The museum is also a popular venue for classical concerts and collaborates regularly with MUNOR (Music Company Nordvegen) and PODIUM Festival.
