April Openings

Spring is upon us and although the air is still crisp, several outdoor art projects have started popping up.

One of the new initiatives from Stavanger Art Museum is their monthly Kuppelkupp – an event that focuses on art and social interaction. The programme includes performances, temporary art installations, lectures, conversations and debates in the museum’s glass cupola. As part of the program for April the artists Siri Borge, Hans Edward Hammonds and Kerstin Juhlin created temporary site-specific interventions in the museum sculpture park.

Later the same evening, a new iteration of the project Occupy Landscape was held outside of Kunsthall Stavanger. Occupy Landscape is a series of occupations of the plinth where the sculpture Figure for Landscape by Barbara Hepworth previously stood. The project is initiated and run by Galleri Artilleri. This past Thursday, artist Kjetil Kristensen's project Figure for Sublime Oblivion was presented at the plinth.

On the other side of town the following day, the Swedish artist Klas Eriksson had prepared the smoke performance Oilers in a bottle by the waterside in relation to the opening of his exhibitions at Prosjektrom Normanns. Unfortunately the wind sent the smoke out to sea pretty quickly - that's the Stavanger weather for you - the only predictable is that it's unpredictable.
