Nadia Marcus (b. 1993, New York City) is a poet, designer, DJ and co-editor of TABLOID Press, a publishing house and media imprint founded in Berlin in 2014. Her poetry, art criticism and lyric journalism have recently appeared in Ezio Gribaudo: Weight of the Concrete, Arts of the Working Class, and The Ransom Note.
The open call received more than 130 intriguing and poised applications, marking a notable geographical spread and entrance pathways to Alexander Kielland, art books and Stavanger.
Daily manager and editor of CAS Sofie Bakke Ringstad, who oversaw the application and jury process alongside Heather Jones (CAS) and Ruth Stokke Haaland (Kiellandsenteret), states:
– Nadia Marucs’ motivational letter was written with a lyrical intensity that caught our attention. Her mastery of text and sound, combined with her critical approach, deep understanding and publishing of art books, solidified the jury’s decision that she was the right resident this year.
Leader of Kiellandsenteret, Stine Honoré, emphasizes the importance of institutional collaboration:
– The Itchy Fingers Residency gives us a chance to see Alexander Kielland’s cultural heritage, and Sølvbergets many other assets, through a new lens. We are very happy that Nadia Marcus will shape the second iteration of this initiative.
Nadia Marcus has given poetry readings and performances in venues such as KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin, DE), Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz (Berlin, DE), Haus am Waldsee (Berlin, DE), and Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, DK). In the last years she has also exhibited visual works at SYSTEMA (Marseille, FR), Kunstverein München (Munich, DE), and Mint (Stockholm, SE). She broadcasts sets regularly at the Berlin-based radio station Refuge Worldwide, and is a resident DJ of the event series subglow.
For her time in Stavanger, Marcus will focus on identifying patterns of sonic and textual rhythm and graphic refrains in the Sølvberget art book collection. She will also participate in a panel on trans underground culture as part of Kapittel – Stavanger international festival for literature and free speech.
An interview with Nadia Marcus will be published ahead of her residency.
