For the third consecutive year, CAS – Contemporary Art Stavanger and Open Studios Stavanger & Sandnes are collaborating on a conversation exploring an aspect of the art world.

Kritiker Siren Løkaas har besøkt Frode Felipe Schjelderups soloutstilling To Be Or To Not Be på Bryne kunstforening. Her møter hun et omfattende fiksjonsunivers av metal, populærkultur, outsiderfigurer og tilbakevendende karakterer. Men hvordan finner man veien inn i en verden som allerede har sin egen historie?

Impact / Inntrykk er en serie personlige tekster om møtet med et enkelt kunstverk. Denne gangen er det Andreas Wathne Røst, museumspedagog ved Stavanger kunstmuseum, som skriver om et uventet møte med Marit Victoria Wulff Andreassens verkserie Seasons of Summoning my Grandmother – og hvordan det påvirket et ellers monotont sykehusbesøk.

As the recipient of the 2026 Itchy Fingers – A Writing Residency on Art Books, Nadia Marcus brings to Stavanger her creative practice that combines poetry, DJing, publishing, printmaking, and performance, all revolving around questions of embodiment, inscription, and care. In this conversation, Marcus discusses the book as a physical and communal form, the “anti-clout” of independent publishing, and her research into the connections between music, archives, and printed matter during her residency in Stavanger.

Da kunstprosjektet Langs kysten tok over Natvigs Minde i sommer, var skribent og kunstpsykoterapeut Silje Klippen til stede. Hun inviterer leserne til å følge hennes assosiative opplevelse av kunstverkene som ble vist den dagen – en rotur uten baugen i vann, et plantefarget karanteneflagg heist høyt over øya – og hva de sier om havner og kystkulturens betydning for den enkelte og fellesskapet.

Gjennom tekst og bilder reflekterer den Stavanger-baserte grafikeren Solveig Landa over sitt arbeidsopphold ved Stiftelsen Edvard Munch’s Atelier på Ekely i april og mai 2026: En rapport om rastløshet i møte med nye inntrykk, endrede planer og vårblomster.

The main exhibition of the 2026 version of Stavanger Secession, titled To Live and Think like Pigs, was on view from April 10 – April 25, 2026 and featured notable artworks by artists such as Coop Himmelb(l)au, Carsten Höller, Steffen Jørgensen, Rosemarie Trockel, among many others. Artists and researchers Kristaps Ancāns and Roberts Jansons use the exhibition as a lens through which to see architecture not only as something humans make, but also something that makes humans.

In June, Mexican artist Carlos Amorales transformed the interior of Obrestad Lighthouse with thousands of handcrafted black butterflies. The installation, titled Black Cloud, has traveled the world since 2007, responding the specific architecture and conditions of each site. On the occasion of the work’s first presentation in Norway, Amorales described for CAS the deeply personal story behind the project.
